Dr. Robert Lagrou, DO, has spent his career fighting for people who too often fall through the cracks. A board‑certified psychiatrist in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine , he has dedicated more than a decade to improving psychiatric care across Michigan. His training spans Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, residency at Henry Ford Health System, and fellowship at the University of Michigan . He has also completed advanced neuromodulation training at Duke University, one of the nation’s leading centers for TMS innovation.
Dr. Lagrou is recognized statewide for his leadership and clinical excellence. In 2024, he was named Psychiatrist of the Year by NAMI Michigan and has been honored multiple times as a Top Doctor in Metro Detroit by Hour Magazine . Throughout his career, he has also received numerous awards for quality improvement and innovation in mental health care.
But titles and awards are not what define him.
Dr. Lagrou’s philosophy was shaped by his military service, where he learned a simple truth that guides every decision he makes: no one gets left behind. That belief became the foundation of his life’s work. Whether he is treating a teenager in crisis, a veteran battling trauma, or an executive quietly struggling with depression, he approaches every patient with the same unwavering commitment: every person is a VIP, and every patient is treated as if they were his own family.
As the first psychiatrist to bring both TMS and Spravato to Detroit, Dr. Lagrou has been a pioneer in expanding access to advanced treatments for people with treatment‑resistant depression. His expertise in TRD is matched only by his compassion for those who feel they’ve run out of options.
Today, through H3, he continues his mission to ensure that hope, healing, and health are not privileges — but rights.
